'''Pyral SAS''' is a manufacturer of [magnetic recording](/source/magnetic_recording) media products, based in [Avranches](/source/Avranches), France. As of 2015, it is a subsidiary of [Mulann](/source/Mulann), a French company in the smartcard and ticketing industry.

In 1934, Pyral created a new type of [transcription disc](/source/transcription_disc). Their innovation was to coat the [aluminum disc](/source/aluminum_disc) with a layer of [lacquer](/source/lacquer). In 1977, Pyral made the original blank disks for the [Golden Record](/source/Golden_Record) of the NASA Voyager spacecraft.
Although the company was originally based in [Créteil](/source/Cr%C3%A9teil), France, it moved to the [Avranches](/source/Avranches) location in 1985. Prior to 2004, it was part of [EMTEC](/source/EMTEC), [BASF](/source/BASF),<ref>[http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_hb4332/is_199709/ai_n15137487 "BASF Magnetics acquired the Pyral company in 1992"]</ref> and [Rhône-Poulenc](/source/Rh%C3%B4ne-Poulenc). From that same year until the acquisition by Mulann, it was an independent company. In 2012, Pyral acquired [RMGI](/source/RMGI), a maker of analog tape used for sound recording.
