The **purple bankclimber** (***Elliptoideus sloatianus***) is a rare and endangered [species](/source/Species) of [freshwater mussel](/source/Freshwater_mussel), an [aquatic](/source/Aquatic_animal) [bivalve](/source/Bivalve) [mollusk](/source/Mollusk) in the family [Unionidae](/source/Unionidae), the river mussels.

This species is [endemic](/source/Endemism) to the states of [Georgia](/source/Georgia_(US_State)) and [Florida](/source/Florida) in the [United States](/source/United_States). It can be found in the [Chattahoochee](/source/Chattahoochee_River), Flint, and [Ochlockonee](/source/Ochlockonee_River) rivers. Its habitats are rivers and streams. It is normally found in medium currents over sand, sand mixed with mud, or gravel substrates, swept free of silt by the current.[3]

The threats to this mussel are habitat change, sedimentation, and water quality degradation. It is listed as threatened under the [Endangered Species Act](/source/Endangered_Species_Act).[3]
