**Giovanni "Pupo" De Luca** (18 December 1924 – 18 December 2006) was an Italian actor and jazz musician.

## Life and career

Born in [Milan](/source/Milan), after the [World War II](/source/World_War_II) De Luca started his career in the theaters of his hometown, performing in [revues](/source/Revue), dialect theatre, and dramas. He had his [breakout](/source/Breakout_role) in the late 1960s, with the role of Fritz in the [RAI](/source/RAI) TV-series *[Nero Wolfe](/source/Nero_Wolfe#Italian_TV_series_(1969–1971))*. In films, he was mainly active as a [character actor](/source/Character_actor), except for a number of main roles in a few low budget comedies.[1]

De Luca was also well known as a jazz drummer, and his collaborations include [Chet Baker](/source/Chet_Baker), [Franco Cerri](/source/Franco_Cerri), [Enrico Intra](/source/Enrico_Intra), [Bud Shank](/source/Bud_Shank), and [Gianni Basso](/source/Gianni_Basso). With Intra and Gianni Buongiovanni he is considered a "founding father" of the [cabaret](/source/Cabaret) [Derby Club](/source/Derby_Club) in his hometown.[2]

De Luca retired from showbusiness in the early 1990s and moved to [Lanzarote](/source/Lanzarote), [Canary Islands](/source/Canary_Islands), where he died in 2006, aged 82 years old.[2]
