# Puconci

**Puconci** (ˈpuːtsɔntsi; in older sources also *Pucinci*,[1] Hungarian: *Battyánd*,[1] [Prekmurje Slovene](/source/Prekmurje_Slovene): *Püconci*[2]) is a settlement in the [Prekmurje](/source/Prekmurje) region in northeastern [Slovenia](/source/Slovenia).[3] It is the seat of the [Municipality of Puconci](/source/Municipality_of_Puconci). Prior to 1920 it was known as Battyánd.

## Church

There is a Lutheran church in the middle of the settlement, built in 1784, the first Lutheran church in the region of Prekmurje.[4] It was rebuilt and restyled in 1909.[5]

Prominent natives and residents of Puconci include the writers [István Lülik](/source/Istv%C3%A1n_L%C3%BClik), [Sándor Terplán](/source/S%C3%A1ndor_Terpl%C3%A1n), [Rudolf Czipott](/source/Rudolf_Czipott), and [Ferenc Berke](/source/Ferenc_Berke), and the politician [Feri Horvat](/source/Feri_Horvat).
