***Pseudanthus*** is a genus of nine species of flowering plants in the family [Picrodendraceae](/source/Picrodendraceae), and is [endemic](/source/Endemism) to Australia. Plants in the genus *Pseudanthus* are small, heath-like, [monoecious](/source/Monoecy) shrubs with [simple](/source/Leaf#Divisions_of_the_blade), leathery leaves, and flowers arranged in upper leaf axils.

## Description

Plants in the genus *Micrantheum* are heath-like, monoecious shrubs with simple, leathery leaves with thickened edges. The leaves are on a short [petiole](/source/Petiole_(botany)) with tiny [stipules](/source/Stipule) at the base. The flowers are arranged in upper leaf axils with [bracts](/source/Bract) at the base. Male flowers are arranged in clusters on a short [peduncle](/source/Peduncle_(botany)), and have six stamens. Female flowers are arranged singly and have an [ovary](/source/Ovary_(botany)) with two or three cells with two [ovules](/source/Ovule) per cell, and two or three [styles](/source/Style_(botany)). The fruit is a [capsule](/source/Capsule_(fruit)) containing seeds with a [caruncle](/source/Elaiosome#Caruncle).[2][3][4]

## Taxonomy

The genus *Pseudanthus* was first formally described in 1827 by [Kurt Polycarp Joachim Sprengel](/source/Kurt_Polycarp_Joachim_Sprengel) in *[Systema Vegetabilium](/source/Systema_Vegetabilium)*,[5] and the first species he described (the [type species](/source/Type_(biology))) was *[Pseudanthus pimeleoides](/source/Pseudanthus_pimeleoides)*.[6]
