'''Proschium''' or '''Proschion''' ({{langx|grc|Πρόσχιον}}) was a town of [ancient Aetolia](/source/ancient_Aetolia), between the [Achelous](/source/Achelous_River) and the [Evenus](/source/Evinos). It is said to have been founded by the Aeolians when they were removed from the [Homer](/source/Homer)ic [Pylene](/source/Pylene) higher up into the country. Proschium also laid claim to high antiquity, since it possessed a shrine said to have been dedicated by [Heracles](/source/Heracles) to his cupbearer [Cyathus](/source/Cyathus), whom he had unintentionally slain. It is clear, from a narrative of [Thucydides](/source/Thucydides), that Proschium lay west of [Calydon](/source/Calydon) and [Pleuron](/source/Pleuron_(Aetolia)), and at no great distance from the Achelous.<ref>{{Cite Strabo|x. p.451}}</ref><ref>Athen. 10.411a.; {{Cite Thucydides|3.102, 3.106}}</ref><ref>{{Cite Stephanus|''s.v.''}}</ref>

Its site is tentatively located near the modern Proph. Ilias, Kato Retsina.<ref>{{Cite DARE|46838}}</ref>
