# Progreso District

**Progreso District** is one of the fourteen [districts](/source/Districts_of_Peru) of the [Grau Province](/source/Grau_Province) in [Peru](/source/Peru).[1]

## Geography

One of the highest peaks of the district is [Intikancha](/source/Intikancha_(Apur%C3%ADmac)) at approximately 4,700 m (15,400 ft). Other mountains are listed below:[2]

## Ethnic groups

The people in the district are mainly [indigenous](/source/Indigenous_peoples_of_the_Americas) citizens of [Quechua](/source/Quechua_people) descent. [Quechua](/source/Quechua_language) is the language which the majority of the population (86.96%) learnt to speak in childhood, 12.39% of the residents started speaking using the [Spanish](/source/Spanish_language) language ([2007 Peru Census](/source/2007_Peru_Census)).[3]
