**Probonas** or **Promponas** ([Greek](/source/Greek_language): Προμπονάς pronounced [\[pɾoboˈnas\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA/Greek)) is a northern [neighborhood](/source/Neighborhood) of [Athens](/source/Athens), [Greece](/source/Greece).

Probonas is the northernmost neighborhood of Athens, located on its north-west angle. It borders [Ano Patissia](/source/Ano_Patissia) to the south, the town of [Nea Chalkidona](/source/Nea_Chalkidona) to the west, [Perissos](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Perissos&action=edit&redlink=1) to the north and [Rizoupoli](/source/Rizoupoli), along with [metro line 1](/source/Line_1_(Athens_Metro)) line to the east. On the west of Promponas, runs the torrent of [Podoniftis](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Podoniftis&action=edit&redlink=1), which is the border between the city of Athens and the municipality of [Filadelfeia-Chalkidona](/source/Filadelfeia-Chalkidona).

Its name derives from Dimitrios Probonas (1874–1949), [MP](/source/Member_of_parliament) and doctor.

## Transport

[Ano Patisia metro station](/source/Ano_Patisia_metro_station) and [Perissos metro station](/source/Perissos_metro_station) on [Line 1](/source/Line_1_(Athens_Metro)) of the [Athens Metro](/source/Athens_Metro) serve the area. There are bus lines passing from its south part on Chalkidos Street. The other main streets of the neighborhood are Antheon and Probona.
