# Prix Iris for Best Supporting Actor

Annual Canadian film award

[Québec Cinéma](/source/Qu%C3%A9bec_Cin%C3%A9ma) presents an annual award for **Best Supporting Actor** ([French](/source/French_language): *Prix Iris de la meilleure interprétation masculin dans un rôle de soutien*) to recognize the best in the [Cinema of Quebec](/source/Cinema_of_Quebec).

Until 2016, it was known as the **Jutra Award for Best Supporting Actor** in memory of influential Quebec film director [Claude Jutra](/source/Claude_Jutra).[1] Following the withdrawal of Jutra's name from the award, the 2016 award was presented under the name Québec Cinéma.[1] The [Prix Iris](/source/Prix_Iris) name was announced in October 2016.[2]

[Rémy Girard](/source/R%C3%A9my_Girard) received the most nominations in this category, five, but didn't win any. [Jean Lapointe](/source/Jean_Lapointe) and [Luc Picard](/source/Luc_Picard) are the only actors to win this award twice. Two non-Canadian actors won the award: [Serge Kanyinda](/source/Serge_Kanyinda) for *[War Witch](/source/War_Witch) (Rebelle)* and [Sergio Castellitto](/source/Sergio_Castellitto) for *[Mafia Inc.](/source/Mafia_Inc.)*, the former becoming the first black actor to win the award. At the [2024 ceremony](/source/26th_Quebec_Cinema_Awards), [Steve Laplante](/source/Steve_Laplante) became the first actor to receive two acting nominations in the same category.

Six actors received nominations for [Best Actor](/source/Prix_Iris_for_Best_Actor) and Best Supporting Actor in the same year:

- In 2002, [Luc Picard](/source/Luc_Picard) won Best Actor for *[February 15, 1839](/source/February_15%2C_1839) (15 février 1839)* and was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for *[The Woman Who Drinks](/source/The_Woman_Who_Drinks) (La femme qui boit)*.

- In 2008, [Guillaume Lemay-Thivierge](/source/Guillaume_Lemay-Thivierge) was nominated for Best Actor for *[Nitro](/source/Nitro_(film))* and Best Supporting Actor for *[The 3 L'il Pigs](/source/The_3_L'il_Pigs) (Les 3 p'tits cochons)*.

- In 2012, [Mario Saint-Amand](/source/Mario_Saint-Amand) was nominated for Best Actor for *[Gerry](/source/Gerry_(2011_film))* and Best Supporting Actor for *[Coteau rouge](/source/Coteau_rouge)*.

- In 2020, [Robin Aubert](/source/Robin_Aubert) was nominated for Best Actor for *[Young Juliette](/source/Young_Juliette) (Jeune Juliette)* and Best Supporting Actor for *[Thanks for Everything](/source/Thanks_for_Everything_(2019_film)) (Merci pour tout)*.

- In 2023, [Steve Laplante](/source/Steve_Laplante) won Best Actor for *[Viking](/source/Viking_(2022_film))* and was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for *[Babysitter](/source/Babysitter_(2022_film))*.

- In 2024, [Marc-André Grondin](/source/Marc-Andr%C3%A9_Grondin) was nominated for Best Actor for *[The Successor](/source/The_Successor_(2023_film)) (Le successeur)* and won Best Supporting Actor for *[Richelieu](/source/Richelieu_(2023_film))*.
