# Prix Iris for Best Actor

Annual Canadian film award

[Québec Cinéma](/source/Qu%C3%A9bec_Cin%C3%A9ma) presents an annual award for **Best Actor** ([French](/source/French_language): *Prix Iris de la meilleure interprétation dans un premier rôle masculin*) to recognize the best in the [Cinema of Quebec](/source/Cinema_of_Quebec).

Until 2016, it was known as the **Jutra Award for Best Actor** in memory of influential Quebec film director [Claude Jutra](/source/Claude_Jutra).[1] Following the withdrawal of Jutra's name from the award, the 2016 award was presented under the name Québec Cinéma.[1] The [Prix Iris](/source/Prix_Iris) name was announced in October 2016.[2]

[Luc Picard](/source/Luc_Picard) received the most nominations in this category, six, and received one award. [Gilbert Sicotte](/source/Gilbert_Sicotte) received three nominations and won everytime, becoming the actor with the most wins in this category. [Paul Ahmarani](/source/Paul_Ahmarani) and [Olivier Gourmet](/source/Olivier_Gourmet) jointly received the award for *[Congorama](/source/Congorama)*, making Ahmarani the first actor to win the award twice and Gourmet the first non-Canadian to win the award.

[Natar Ungalaaq](/source/Natar_Ungalaaq) became the first indigenous actor to win the award for his performance in *[The Necessities of Life](/source/The_Necessities_of_Life) (Ce qu'il faut pour vivre)*. *[Les Boys III](/source/Les_Boys_III)* is the only film to receive three nominations in this category. Three actors were nominated multiple times for playing the same character: [Marc Messier](/source/Marc_Messier) for *[Les Boys II](/source/Les_Boys_II)* and *[Les Boys III](/source/Les_Boys_III)*, [Patrick Huard](/source/Patrick_Huard) for *[Bon Cop, Bad Cop](/source/Bon_Cop%2C_Bad_Cop)* and *[Bon Cop, Bad Cop 2](/source/Bon_Cop%2C_Bad_Cop_2)* and [Jean-Carl Boucher](/source/Jean-Carl_Boucher) for *[1981](/source/1981_(film))*, *[1987](/source/1987_(film))*, *[1991](/source/1991_(film))* and *[1995](/source/1995_(film))*.

Seven actors received nominations for Best Actor and [Best Supporting Actor](/source/Prix_Iris_for_Best_Supporting_Actor) or [Revelation of the Year](/source/Prix_Iris_for_Revelation_of_the_Year) in the same year:

- In 2002, [Luc Picard](/source/Luc_Picard) won Best Actor for *[February 15, 1839](/source/February_15%2C_1839) (15 février 1839)* and was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for *[The Woman Who Drinks](/source/The_Woman_Who_Drinks) (La femme qui boit)*.

- In 2008, [Guillaume Lemay-Thivierge](/source/Guillaume_Lemay-Thivierge) was nominated for Best Actor for *[Nitro](/source/Nitro_(film))* and Best Supporting Actor for *[The 3 L'il Pigs](/source/The_3_L'il_Pigs) (Les 3 p'tits cochons)*.

- In 2012, [Mario Saint-Amand](/source/Mario_Saint-Amand) was nominated for Best Actor for *[Gerry](/source/Gerry_(2011_film))* and Best Supporting Actor for *[Coteau rouge](/source/Coteau_rouge)*.

- In 2020, [Robin Aubert](/source/Robin_Aubert) was nominated for Best Actor for *[Young Juliette](/source/Young_Juliette) (Jeune Juliette)* and Best Supporting Actor for *[Thanks for Everything](/source/Thanks_for_Everything_(2019_film)) (Merci pour tout)*.

- In 2023, [Steve Laplante](/source/Steve_Laplante) won Best Actor for *[Viking](/source/Viking_(2022_film))* and was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for *[Babysitter](/source/Babysitter_(2022_film))*.
