**Prawet** ([Thai](/source/Thai_language): ประเวศ, pronounced [\[prā.wêːt\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA/Thai)) is one of the [50 districts](/source/Districts_of_Bangkok) of [Bangkok](/source/Bangkok), [Thailand](/source/Thailand). It is in the southeast. Neighboring districts are (from the east clockwise) [Bang Phli](/source/Bang_Phli_district) ([Samut Prakan province](/source/Samut_Prakan_province)), [Bang Na](/source/Bang_Na_district), [Phra Khanong](/source/Phra_Khanong_district), [Suan Luang](/source/Suan_Luang_district), [Bang Kapi](/source/Bang_Kapi_district), [Saphan Sung](/source/Saphan_Sung_district) and [Lat Krabang](/source/Lat_Krabang_district) (Bangkok). The district is best known for [Paradise Park](/source/Paradise_Park_(mall)), Paradise Place, [Seacon Square](/source/Seacon_Square) shopping malls; Srinagarindra Train Night Market; as well as [Suan Luang Rama IX](/source/Suan_Luang_Rama_IX) public park.

## History

Prawet was once part of Phra Khanong District. Prawet was elevated to become a separate district in 1989. Part of Prawet, especially the Suan Luang Sub-district, was carved out to establish Suan Luang District on 14 January 1994.

Its name after [Khlong Prawet Burirom](/source/Khlong_Prawet_Burirom), a canal that flows through the northern area.

In October 2005 the plan to create the special administrative area [Nakhon Suvarnabhumi](/source/Nakhon_Suvarnabhumi_Province) around the new [Bangkok airport](/source/Suvarnabhumi_Airport) became public. Prawet was supposed to be one of five districts to be included in this new area.

## Motto

The district's motto is "Prawet is green and shady, of particular note is Suan Luang Rama IX, the open university inculcates high moral values and helps to develop model citizens".

## Transportation

[Srinagarindra Road](/source/Srinagarindra_Road) is a main artery of the district, Chaloem Phra Kiat Ratchakan Thi 9 and Phatthanakan with On Nut (Sukhumvit 77) as well as Sukhaphiban 2 Roads considered as a minor road. Kanchanaphisek Road (Outer Ring Road) passes through the eastern area.

Prawet is served by [Ban Thap Chang Station](/source/Ban_Thap_Chang_Station) of the [State Railway of Thailand](/source/State_Railway_of_Thailand), whose [eastern line](/source/Eastern_Line_(Thailand)) and [airport rail link](/source/Airport_Rail_Link_(Bangkok)) runs past the area.

[MRT Yellow Line](/source/Yellow_Line_(Bangkok)) passes through the district along the [Srinagarindra](/source/Srinagarindra_Road) road. Stations are [Srinagarindra 38](/source/Srinagarindra_38_MRT_station), [Suan Luang Rama IX](/source/Suan_Luang_Rama_IX_MRT_station) and [Si Udom](/source/Si_Udom_MRT_station).
