# Powerfin

**Powerfin Propellers**, is an American manufacturer of [composite](/source/Composite_material) [propellers](/source/Propeller_(aircraft)) for [homebuilt](/source/Homebuilt_aircraft), [light-sport](/source/Light-sport_aircraft) and [ultralight aircraft](/source/Ultralight_aircraft), as well as [wind power](/source/Wind_power) generation systems. The company headquarters is located in [Hurricane, Utah](/source/Hurricane,_Utah), although it was formerly in [El Campo, Texas](/source/El_Campo,_Texas) and originated in [Arlington, Washington](/source/Arlington,_Washington).[2][3][4][5][6]

## Products

Powerfin produces [carbon fiber](/source/Carbon_fiber) two, three, four and five-bladed propellers for [two-stroke](/source/Two-stroke) and [four-stroke](/source/Four-stroke) engines up to the [Rotax 914](/source/Rotax_914) of 115 hp (86 kW).[2][4][5][6]

The company is noted for its use of the [Clark Y](/source/Clark_Y) [airfoil](/source/Airfoil), infinite blade angle adjustment, as well as for the very low [rotating inertia](/source/Rotating_inertia) of its designs, a key wear factor on lightweight engine gearboxes. The propeller blades are constructed of carbon fiber and aramid pre-preg cloth with a foam core, and cured in an autoclave. The company's Apex series of two- to five-bladed propeller hubs were [CAD/CAM](/source/CAD/CAM) designed and are created on a Haas VF-4 [CNC vertical milling station](/source/Numerical_control).[2][7][8][9]

## History

Founded by Stuart Gort, the company went out of business in 2009. It was acquired by [powered parachute](/source/Powered_parachute) manufacturer Frederick Scheffel and production moved to [Texas](/source/Texas) in late 2009[10] and then to [Utah](/source/Utah) in 2012.
