***Power: Origins*** is an upcoming American [crime drama](/source/Drama_(film_and_television)) television series created by [Sascha Penn](/source/Sascha_Penn) that will premiere on [Starz](/source/Starz).

## Premise

It is the fourth upcoming spin-off and second prequel of *Power*. Set in the late 1990s and early 2000s, it will follow the early lives of James St. Patrick and Tommy Egan. It will be the fifth installment of the Power Universe. Starz described the series as "a fun, rambunctious exploration of a new time period in the *Power* franchise," and stated that it centers on "the unbridled audacity of young men on the rise, determined to become legends in the game."

## Production

### Development

In March 2024, [Starz](/source/Starz) announced that *Power: Origins* the prequel series of *[Power](/source/Power_(TV_series))* about the origin story of Ghost and [Thomas "Tommy" Egan](/source/Tommy_Egan) was in development. [Sascha Penn](/source/Sascha_Penn) is the executive producer for the series, alongside the creator of *Power* [Courtney A. Kemp](/source/Courtney_A._Kemp) through her production company End of Episode, [Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson](/source/50_Cent) through [G-Unit Films and Television Inc.](/source/G-Unit_Films_and_Television_Inc.), [Mark Canton](/source/Mark_Canton) through Canton Entertainment, [Pete Chatmon](/source/Pete_Chatmon) who also serves as director and Chris Selak, with [Lionsgate Television](/source/Lionsgate_Television) producing the series.[1][2] In June 2025, it was revealed that the series had opened its writing rooms, with Penn serving as showrunner.[3] In July 2025, it was anncouned that Starz had greenlighted the series, and it would consist 18 episodes.[4]

### Casting

In July 2025, it was announced that [Mekai Curtis](/source/Mekai_Curtis) would reprise the role of early adult [Kanan Stark](/source/Kanan_Stark) in the series, which he has portrayed in *[Power Book III: Raising Kanan](/source/Power_Book_III:_Raising_Kanan)*.[4] In September 2025, Spence Moore and Charlie Mann was cast as "Ghost" and "Tommy" respectively.[5] In December 2025, [Jennifer Ferrin](/source/Jennifer_Ferrin), Lizzy DeClement, [Lenny Platt](/source/Lenny_Platt), Armani Gabriel, Everett Osborne and Jason Dirden were cast in recurring roles.[2] In January 2026, [Kelly McCreary](/source/Kelly_McCreary), [Hill Harper](/source/Hill_Harper), [Nadia Dajani](/source/Nadia_Dajani), [Damon Gupton](/source/Damon_Gupton), [Tonya Pinkins](/source/Tonya_Pinkins) were cast in recurring roles.[6] In February 2026, [Dominic Rains](/source/Dominic_Rains) joined the recurring cast of the series.[7] In March 2026, Zuri Reed was cast as series regular, playing the younger version of Tasha St. Patrick of *Power*.[8]

### Filming

In December 2025, it was confirmed that the production of the series got underway in [New York](/source/New_York_City).[2]
