# Potton Brook

**Potton Brook** rises east of [Gamlingay](/source/Gamlingay), [Cambridgeshire](/source/Cambridgeshire), and flows southwest and then south through [Potton](/source/Potton)[2][dead link]and the [John O'Gaunt Golf Club](/source/John_O'Gaunt_Golf_Club) and into [Sutton, Bedfordshire](/source/Sutton,_Bedfordshire). Potton Brook curves west and northwest, and joins the [River Ivel](/source/River_Ivel) northeast of [Lower Caldecote](/source/Lower_Caldecote). It has a total length of 15.656 km (9.728 mi).[3][4]

Potton Brook flows along the West Boundary of the Henry Smith playing fields in Potton. On West side of the playing fields is the smaller Horse Brook which flows into Potton Brook.[citation needed]

## Hydrology

Potton Brook has a length of 15.656 km (9.728 mi). When measured in 2022, the brook had a moderate ecological status. Its [hydromorphological](/source/Hydromorphological) designation is 'heavily modified', meaning it fails to achieve good ecological status owing to significant man-made alterations to its natural physical character.[Environment Agency](/source/Environment_Agency) data gives the Potton Brook a catchment area of 65.419 km2 (25.258 sq mi). It is one of twenty water bodies of the [Ivel](/source/River_Ivel) Operational Catchment.[5][6]

## Historic infrastructure

- [Sutton Packhorse Bridge](/source/Sutton_Packhorse_Bridge), a Grade-II* listed building in the village of [Sutton](/source/Sutton,_Bedfordshire), has a length of 40 m (130 ft) and was built around the 13th century.[7][8]
