**Cristian Portugués Manzanera** (ˈkɾistjam poɾtuˈɣes manθaˈneɾa;[α] born 21 May 1992), commonly known as **Portu** (ˈpoɾtu), is a Spanish professional [footballer](/source/Association_football) who plays as a [winger](/source/Midfielder#Winger) for club [Girona](/source/Girona_FC).

He played 288 [La Liga](/source/La_Liga) games and scored 44 goals, in service of [Valencia](/source/Valencia_CF), [Girona](/source/Girona_FC) (two spells), [Real Sociedad](/source/Real_Sociedad) and [Getafe](/source/Getafe_CF), winning the [Copa del Rey](/source/Copa_del_Rey) with the third of those clubs in [2019–20](/source/2019%E2%80%9320_Copa_del_Rey).

## Club career

### Valencia

Born in [Beniel](/source/Beniel), [Region of Murcia](/source/Region_of_Murcia), Portu played as a child at local [CD Beniel](/source/CD_Beniel) and [Real Murcia CF](/source/Real_Murcia_CF) before moving to [Valencia CF](/source/Valencia_CF)'s youth system in 2009.[3][4] He made his senior debut with [the reserves](/source/Valencia_CF_Mestalla) at only 17, going on to spend several seasons with the side in the [Segunda División B](/source/Segunda_Divisi%C3%B3n_B) as well as one in the [Tercera División](/source/Tercera_Divisi%C3%B3n); in January 2012, he was called up by first-team manager [Unai Emery](/source/Unai_Emery) due to a string of injuries.[5]

Portu played his first official game with the *Che'*s main squad on 27 February 2014, coming on as a late [substitute](/source/Substitute_(association_football)) for fellow youth graduate [Federico Cartabia](/source/Federico_Cartabia) in a 0–0 home draw against [FC Dynamo Kyiv](/source/FC_Dynamo_Kyiv) in the [round of 32](/source/2013%E2%80%9314_UEFA_Europa_League) of the [UEFA Europa League](/source/UEFA_Europa_League).[6] His maiden appearance in [La Liga](/source/La_Liga) came three days later, as he started and was [booked](/source/Penalty_card#Yellow_card) in a 1–0 away loss to [Rayo Vallecano](/source/Rayo_Vallecano).[7]

### Albacete

On 11 July 2014, it was announced that Valencia had sold Portu to [Segunda División](/source/Segunda_Divisi%C3%B3n) club [Albacete Balompié](/source/Albacete_Balompi%C3%A9) with a buy-back option.[8] He scored his first professional goals on 18 October, netting a brace but in a 3–2 defeat at [CD Mirandés](/source/CD_Mirand%C3%A9s).[9]

### Girona

On 21 June 2016, after *Alba's* [relegation](/source/2015%E2%80%9316_Segunda_Divisi%C3%B3n), Portu signed a three-year deal with [Girona FC](/source/Girona_FC) also in the second tier.[10] He scored eight goals (also providing eight [assists](/source/Assist_(association_football))) in his [first season](/source/2016%E2%80%9317_Segunda_Divisi%C3%B3n), helping the [Catalans](/source/Catalonia) to a first ever top-flight promotion.[11]

Portu bettered that total to 11 [the following campaign](/source/2017%E2%80%9318_La_Liga), as Girona easily retained their league status.[12] Highlights included the winner in a 2–1 comeback victory against [Real Madrid](/source/Real_Madrid_CF) on 29 October 2017,[13] and a brace to ensure a 2–2 draw at [Real Betis](/source/Real_Betis) on 25 November.[14] The following 24 February, he took three minutes to give his side a lead away to neighbours [FC Barcelona](/source/FC_Barcelona), albeit in a 6–1 loss.[15]

In [2018–19](/source/2018%E2%80%9319_La_Liga), Portu contributed nine goals but suffered relegation.[16]

### Real Sociedad

On 18 June 2019, [Real Sociedad](/source/Real_Sociedad) announced via their [Twitter](/source/Twitter) account that they had reached a preliminary agreement for the transfer of Portu for a fee of €10 million;[17][18] the five-year contract was confirmed the same day.[19] He scored his first goal for his new team on 29 September, in a 3–2 away loss to [Sevilla FC](/source/Sevilla_FC).[20]

On 3 April 2021, the club from [San Sebastián](/source/San_Sebasti%C3%A1n) won their first major trophy since [1987](/source/1987_Copa_del_Rey_final), lifting the [Copa del Rey](/source/Copa_del_Rey) in the [delayed 2020 final](/source/2020_Copa_del_Rey_final) against [local rivals](/source/Basque_derby) [Athletic Bilbao](/source/Athletic_Bilbao). Portu was fouled by [Iñigo Martínez](/source/I%C3%B1igo_Mart%C3%ADnez), from which [Mikel Oyarzabal](/source/Mikel_Oyarzabal) scored the game's only goal from the [penalty spot](/source/Penalty_kick_(association_football)).[21]

### Getafe

On 21 June 2022, Portu joined [Getafe CF](/source/Getafe_CF) on loan with an option to buy.[22] Exactly one year later, he signed a permanent three-year contract.[23]

### Girona return

On 1 September 2023, Girona announced the return of Portu on a four-year deal.[24] He scored in his first appearance two days later, the game's only goal at home against [UD Las Palmas](/source/UD_Las_Palmas).[25] On 4 May 2024, within a minute of coming on as a substitute when his team trailed Barcelona 2–1 at home, he scored an equaliser; he then netted a long-range volley to secure a 4–2 victory and the club's first [qualification](/source/2024%E2%80%9325_UEFA_Champions_League) for the [UEFA Champions League](/source/UEFA_Champions_League), while handing the [league title](/source/2023%E2%80%9324_La_Liga) to Real Madrid.[26]

Portu suffered an [anterior cruciate ligament injury](/source/Anterior_cruciate_ligament_injury) in November 2025 during training, being lost for the remainder of [the season](/source/2025%E2%80%9326_La_Liga).[27]
