**Porecatu** is a city in the state of [Paraná](/source/Paran%C3%A1_(state)), [Brazil](/source/Brazil), located at around , at the margins of the [Paranapanema River](/source/Paranapanema_River). Its [economy](/source/Economy) is mainly based on [agriculture](/source/Agriculture) with the [sugarcane](/source/Sugarcane) being the most important product. As of 2020, the estimated population was 12,748.[1]

The city is served by [Porecatu Airport](/source/Porecatu_Airport).

## History

**Porecatu** was the main place of a violent conflict between [government](/source/Government) forces and [landless workers](/source/Landless_Workers'_Movement) during the decade of 1940, before the official creation of the [city](/source/City). This conflict was called [Porecatu War](/source/Porecatu_War) (Portuguese: "Guerra de Porecatu").
