thumb|The Poprad forming the Polish-Slovak border
The '''Poprad''' ({{langx|hu|Poprád|links=no}}, {{langx|de|Popper|links=no}}) is a river in northern [Slovakia](/source/Slovakia) and southern [Poland](/source/Poland), and a tributary of the [Dunajec River](/source/Dunajec_River) near [Stary Sącz](/source/Stary_S%C4%85cz), Poland. It has a length of 170 kilometres (63 km of which are within the Polish borders) and a [basin area](/source/drainage_basin) of 2,077 km2, (1,594 km2 of which is in [Slovakia](/source/Slovakia), and 483 km2 in Poland). Much of the Polish part of its basin is included in the [protected area](/source/protected_area) called [Poprad Landscape Park](/source/Poprad_Landscape_Park) featuring the [Poprad River Gorge](/source/Poprad_River_Gorge), a popular tourist destination between the towns of [Piwniczna](/source/Piwniczna-Zdr%C3%B3j) and [Rytro](/source/Rytro).

Poprad is the only large Slovak river flowing north into southern Poland. The river flows through the Slovak towns of [Poprad](/source/Poprad), [Kežmarok](/source/Ke%C5%BEmarok), [Stará Ľubovňa](/source/Star%C3%A1_%C4%BDubov%C5%88a), then forms for 31.1 km the Polish-Slovak border and flows through the Polish towns of [Krynica-Zdrój](/source/Krynica-Zdr%C3%B3j), [Muszyna](/source/Muszyna), [Piwniczna-Zdrój](/source/Piwniczna-Zdr%C3%B3j), [Rytro](/source/Rytro), [Stary Sącz](/source/Stary_S%C4%85cz), and [Żegiestów](/source/%C5%BBegiest%C3%B3w), among others.

==Etymology==
The name is derived from a Proto-Slavic verb ''pręd-'' (to flow fast, to jump), preserved in the [Slovak](/source/Slovak_language) words ''priasť'', ''pradenie'' (to spin, [spinning](/source/Spinning_(textiles))).{{sfn|Ondruš|1991|p=231}}
