==Taxonomy==
The genus ''Polyphlebium'' was erected by [Edwin Copeland](/source/Edwin_Copeland) in 1938.<ref name=CFLW/> Its status, like other genera in the family Hymenophyllaceae, remains disputed. The [Pteridophyte Phylogeny Group](/source/Pteridophyte_Phylogeny_Group) classification of 2016 (PPG I) accepts the genus, saying that there are about 15 species.<ref name=PPGI/> {{As of|2019|October}}, the ''Checklist of Ferns and Lycophytes of the World'' lists 17 species,<ref name=CFLW/> whereas ''[Plants of the World Online](/source/Plants_of_the_World_Online)'' sinks the genus into ''[Trichomanes](/source/Trichomanes)''.<ref name=POWO_17411610-1/>
