== Topography ==
Virtually as high as the [Ossoue glacier](/source/Ossoue_glacier) to the south, it dominates from 600 m the [:fr:Glacier des Oulettes de Gaube](/source/%3Afr%3AGlacier_des_Oulettes_de_Gaube) to the north.

It is the highest Pyrenean summit located only in France, north of the French-Spanish border.<ref name="reynolds2001" />

== History ==
The first ascent was led out by [Vincent de Chausenque](/source/Vincent_de_Chausenque) and a guide from [Cauterets](/source/Cauterets) on June 30, 1822.<ref name="reynolds2001" />{{better source needed|date=May 2026}} The summit was reached from [Petit Vignemale](/source/Petit_Vignemale) via the ridge linking both summits.
