# Pniewite

**Pniewite** /pńewite/ is a village in the administrative district of [Gmina Lisewo](/source/Gmina_Lisewo), within [Chełmno County](/source/Che%C5%82mno_County), [Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship](/source/Kuyavian-Pomeranian_Voivodeship), in north-central Poland. It is located in the [Chełmno Land](/source/Che%C5%82mno_Land) in the historic region of [Pomerania](/source/Pomerania).

## History

The village was established in 1250.

During the [German occupation](/source/Occupation_of_Poland_(1939%E2%80%931945)) ([World War II](/source/World_War_II)), Pniewite was one of the sites of executions of [Poles](/source/Polish_people), carried out by the Germans in 1939 as part of the *[Intelligenzaktion](/source/Intelligenzaktion)*.[1] Local Polish teachers were murdered by the Germans in a massacre of Poles committed in nearby [Klamry](/source/Klamry), also as part of the *Intelligenzaktion*.[2]
