**Plossig** is a village and a former municipality in [Wittenberg](/source/Wittenberg_(district)) district in [Saxony-Anhalt](/source/Saxony-Anhalt), [Germany](/source/Germany). Since 1 January 2011, it is part of the town [Annaburg](/source/Annaburg). The municipality belonged to the [administrative community](/source/Amt_(subnational_entity)) (*Verwaltungsgemeinschaft*) of [Annaburg-Prettin](/source/Annaburg-Prettin).

## Geography

Plossig lies about 12 km south of [Jessen](/source/Jessen_(Elster)) on the edge of the [Düben Heath Nature Park](/source/D%C3%BCben_Heath_Nature_Park).

## History

From 1815 to 1944, Plossig was part of the [Prussian](/source/Prussia) [Province of Saxony](/source/Province_of_Saxony) and from 1944 to 1945 of the Province of [Halle-Merseburg](/source/Halle-Merseburg).

After [World War II](/source/World_War_II), Plossig was incorporated into the Province (since 1947, State) of [Saxony-Anhalt](/source/Saxony-Anhalt_(1945%E2%80%931952)) from 1945 to 1952 and the [Bezirk Cottbus](/source/Bezirk_Cottbus) of [East Germany](/source/East_Germany) from 1952 to 1990. Since 1990, Plossig has been part of [Saxony-Anhalt](/source/Saxony-Anhalt), since 2011 as a part of [Annaburg](/source/Annaburg).

## Economy and transportation

Federal Highway (*Bundesstraße*) B 187 between Jessen and [Wittenberg](/source/Wittenberg) lies 12 km away.
