# Pingxi line

The **Pingxi Line** (Chinese: 平溪線; Wade–Giles: *P'ing2-hsi1 Hsien4*; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: *Pêng-khe Soàⁿ*) is a 12.9 km long, single-track[1] railway [branch line](/source/Branch_line) of the [Taiwan Railway](/source/Taiwan_Railway). It runs through [Ruifang](/source/Ruifang_District) and [Pingxi](/source/Pingxi_District) Districts in [New Taipei City](/source/New_Taipei_City).

## History

The railroad was originally built to transport coal. It was completed in July 1921, during [Japanese rule](/source/Taiwan_under_Japanese_rule).

## Services

All trains have through service to the [Yilan Line](/source/Yilan_Line). Most trains terminate at either [Houtong](/source/Houtong_Station) or [Ruifang](/source/Ruifang_Station). Other trains go as far as [Badu](/source/Badu_Station).
