The Pinconning River's course and watershed are entirely in northern [Bay County](/source/Bay_County%2C_Michigan).  It begins in [Mount Forest Township](/source/Mount_Forest_Township%2C_Michigan), approximately {{convert|9.4|mi|km}} west of the city of [Pinconning](/source/Pinconning%2C_Michigan), and flows generally eastward, through [Pinconning Township](/source/Pinconning_Township%2C_Michigan) and Pinconning.
