==Biography==
Born in [Hull, Quebec](/source/Hull%2C_Quebec), Patry began his career in the theatre as an actor and a playwright. He was a founding member of the Canadian Association of Amateur Theatre. He joined the [National Film Board of Canada](/source/National_Film_Board_of_Canada) in 1957 as a writer on the ''Panoramique'' series. Patry was a major force in the beginning of the Quebec feature-film industry in the sixties. He directed three features, most notably ''[Trouble-Maker](/source/Trouble-Maker_(film)) (Trouble fête)'' in 1964.<ref name=cfe/>

He left the NFB in 1963 to co-found the film cooperative Coopératio with [Roger Blais](/source/Roger_Blais_(filmmaker)) and [Jean-Claude Lord](/source/Jean-Claude_Lord).<ref name=cfe/> Unfortunately, the company shut down after five years because of systemic problems in the financing and distribution of feature films.

In 1981 he was a major player in the development of the French language educational television station [Canal Savoir](/source/Canal_Savoir).

Patri died on June 7, 2014.<ref>{{cite web|author=Charles-Henri Ramond |url=http://www.filmsquebec.com/cineaste-producteur-pierre-patry-est-decede/ |title=Le cinéaste et producteur Pierre Patry est décédé |publisher=Films du Québec|date=June 12, 2014}}</ref>
