**Pierre H. Vincent**, [PC](/source/King's_Privy_Council_for_Canada) (born April 2, 1955 in [Trois-Rivières, Quebec](/source/Trois-Rivi%C3%A8res%2C_Quebec)) is a [Canadian](/source/Canadians) tax lawyer and former politician.

## Member of Parliament

Vincent was first elected to the [House of Commons of Canada](/source/House_of_Commons_of_Canada) in the [1984 electoral landslide](/source/1984_Canadian_federal_election) that brought [Brian Mulroney](/source/Brian_Mulroney) and the [Progressive Conservative Party](/source/Progressive_Conservative_Party_of_Canada) to power. Vincent, the PC [Member of Parliament](/source/Member_of_Parliament_(Canada)) for [Trois-Rivières](/source/Trois-Rivi%C3%A8res_(federal_electoral_district)) served as [Parliamentary Secretary](/source/Parliamentary_Secretary) to the [Minister of National Revenue](/source/Minister_of_National_Revenue_(Canada)) from 1984 until 1985; Parliamentary Secretary to the [Minister of Finance](/source/Minister_of_Finance_(Canada)) from 1985 to 1993, and was also Parliamentary Secretary to the [Deputy Prime Minister of Canada](/source/Deputy_Prime_Minister_of_Canada) from 1991 to 1993.

## Cabinet member

In January 1993, Vincent was elevated to [Prime Minister](/source/Prime_Minister_of_Canada) Mulroney's [Cabinet](/source/Canadian_Cabinet) as [Minister of State](/source/Minister_of_State_(Canada)) for Indian Affairs and Northern Development and [Minister of Consumer and Corporate Affairs](/source/Minister_of_Consumer_and_Corporate_Affairs_(Canada)). When [Kim Campbell](/source/Kim_Campbell) succeeded Mulroney as PC leader and prime minister, she promoted Vincent to [Minister of the Environment](/source/Minister_of_the_Environment_(Canada)).

He was sworn of the [Privy Council](/source/Privy_Council) on January 5, 1993.[1]

Both Vincent and the Campbell government were defeated in the [1993 federal election](/source/1993_Canadian_federal_election) and Vincent returned to private life.

## Return in politics

Both Vincent and former colleague [Suzanne Duplessis](/source/Suzanne_Duplessis) managed the [Conservative](/source/Conservative_Party_of_Canada) campaign in Quebec in the [2008 federal election](/source/2008_Canadian_federal_election).[2]
