# Pierre Gingras

**Pierre Gingras** (born April 21, 1952) is a politician from [Quebec](/source/Quebec), [Canada](/source/Canada). He was an [Action démocratique du Québec](/source/Action_d%C3%A9mocratique_du_Qu%C3%A9bec) Member of the [National Assembly](/source/National_Assembly_of_Quebec) for the electoral district of [Blainville](/source/Blainville_(provincial_electoral_district)) from 2007 to 2008.

## Background

From 1993 to 2005, Gingras served as mayor of [Blainville](/source/Blainville,_Quebec) and was a councillor from 1989 to 1993 and the leader of the Civil action municipal political party for 14 years. He worked at the **Commission scolaire des Mille-Îles** for nine, and in the printing industry. He belonged to several economic committees in the [Laurentides](/source/Laurentides) region and was president of the Quebec committee of the Organisation Mondiale de la Famille and president of the North American branch of that organization. ## Member of the Provincial Legislature

Gingras was first elected to the National Assembly in the [2007 election](/source/2007_Quebec_general_election) with 42% of the vote. [Parti Québécois](/source/Parti_Qu%C3%A9b%C3%A9cois) incumbent [Richard Legendre](/source/Richard_Legendre) finished second with 33% of the vote. On March 29, 2007, Gingras was appointed Chairman of the [Official Opposition](/source/Official_Opposition) Caucus.[1][2]

## Federal politics

He ran for the [Liberal Party of Canada](/source/Liberal_Party_of_Canada) in the [2004 Canadian federal election](/source/2004_Canadian_federal_election) in the riding of [Terrebonne—Blainville](/source/Terrebonne%E2%80%94Blainville).

He campaigned on behalf of local [Conservative](/source/Conservative_Party_of_Canada) candidate Claude Carignan during the [federal election of 2008](/source/2008_Canadian_federal_election).[3] Carignan finished a distant second against [Bloc Québécois](/source/Bloc_Qu%C3%A9b%C3%A9cois) candidate [Luc Desnoyers](/source/Luc_Desnoyers) in the district of [Rivière-des-Mille-Îles](/source/Rivi%C3%A8re-des-Mille-%C3%8Eles_(electoral_district)).
