**Pierluigi Gollini** (born 18 March 1995) is an Italian professional [footballer](/source/Association_football) who plays as a [goalkeeper](/source/Goalkeeper_(association_football)) for [Serie A](/source/Serie_A) club [Roma](/source/AS_Roma). He also plays for the [Italy national team](/source/Italy_national_football_team).

Having played at [SPAL](/source/SPAL) and [Fiorentina](/source/Fiorentina) at youth level and graduating from [Manchester United](/source/Manchester_United_F.C.)'s [youth academy](/source/Manchester_United_F.C._Reserves_and_Academy), Gollini began his senior career with [Hellas Verona](/source/Hellas_Verona_FC) in 2014, and joined Atalanta in 2018 after playing for [Aston Villa](/source/Aston_Villa_F.C.) in 2016.

## Club career

### Hellas Verona

Gollini joined [Hellas Verona](/source/Hellas_Verona_F.C.) in 2014 from [Manchester United](/source/Manchester_United_F.C.). He made his [Serie A](/source/Serie_A) debut on 24 September 2014 as a starter in a 2–2 home draw against [Genoa](/source/Genoa_C.F.C.).[3]

### Aston Villa

After two seasons with Verona, Gollini signed for [Championship](/source/Football_League_Championship) club [Aston Villa](/source/Aston_Villa_F.C.) on 8 July 2016.[4] He made his first appearance for Aston Villa in an 8–0 friendly win over Austrian side [Grazer AK](/source/Grazer_AK) the following day.[5]

Gollini started the season as newly relegated Villa's first-choice goalkeeper under manager [Roberto Di Matteo](/source/Roberto_Di_Matteo); however, Villa struggled in the early parts of the campaign, with Gollini making notable errors against [Sheffield Wednesday](/source/Sheffield_Wednesday_F.C.) and [Huddersfield Town](/source/Huddersfield_Town_A.F.C.). Di Matteo was sacked in early October and replaced by [Steve Bruce](/source/Steve_Bruce), who continued to play Gollini until December. The Italian was dropped for the festive period games in favour of [Mark Bunn](/source/Mark_Bunn_(English_footballer)), and on 5 January 2017, Villa brought goalkeeper [Sam Johnstone](/source/Sam_Johnstone) in on loan from [Manchester United](/source/Manchester_United_F.C.), and he took over as first-choice goalkeeper.

### Atalanta

On 13 January 2017, Gollini signed for Italian club [Atalanta](/source/Atalanta_BC) on an 18-month loan. On 10 June 2018, Gollini signed permanently for Atalanta for an undisclosed fee.[6] He spent the first half of the year as backup to [Etrit Berisha](/source/Etrit_Berisha), however claimed the starting spot in the second half of the season. Berisha was loaned out the following summer, making Gollini the undisputed starter.[7] Gollini started every match in Atalanta's debut season in the [UEFA Champions League](/source/UEFA_Champions_League), as they finished second in their group, qualifying for the round of 16.[8]

#### Loan to Tottenham Hotspur

On 24 July 2021, Gollini joined [Premier League](/source/Premier_League) club [Tottenham Hotspur](/source/Tottenham_Hotspur_F.C.) on loan for the season.[9] He made his debut for the club on 19 August 2021, starting in the [UEFA Europa Conference League](/source/UEFA_Europa_Conference_League) first leg tie against [Paços de Ferreira](/source/F.C._Pa%C3%A7os_de_Ferreira), which ended in a 1–0 defeat.[10] Gollini returned to his parent club Atalanta on 2 June 2022.[11]

#### Loan to Fiorentina

On 9 July 2022, Gollini joined [Fiorentina](/source/ACF_Fiorentina) on a season-long loan, with an option to buy.[12] After starting the first three games of the [2022–23 Serie A](/source/2022%E2%80%9323_Serie_A) season, Gollini moved to the bench, backing up [Pietro Terracciano](/source/Pietro_Terracciano). Gollini was the first-choice goalkeeper for Fiorentina's [Europa Conference League](/source/2022%E2%80%9323_UEFA_Europa_Conference_League) campaign, playing in five of their six group stage games.

#### Loan to Napoli

On 25 January 2023, Gollini moved to [Napoli](/source/SSC_Napoli) on loan with an option to buy.[13]

On 16 July 2023, Gollini rejoined Napoli on loan for another season with an option to buy.[14]

#### Loan to Genoa

After Napoli failed to exercise a purchase option, Gollini was loaned to [Genoa](/source/Genoa_CFC) on 30 July 2024, again with an option to buy.[15] After starting the first seven games of the [2024–25 Serie A](/source/2024%E2%80%9325_Serie_A) season, Gollini sustained a hip injury, which allowed his backup, [Nicola Leali](/source/Nicola_Leali), to step in and establish himself as Genoa's first-choice goalkeeper.[16] As a result, Gollini's loan was ended prematurely in January 2025.[17]

### Roma

On 24 January 2025, Gollini moved to [Roma](/source/AS_Roma) on a permanent basis.[18]

## International career

Gollini made his debut with the [Italy U21](/source/Italy_national_under-21_football_team) team on 2 June 2016, in a 0–1 loss against [France](/source/France_national_under-21_football_team).[19]

Gollini made his senior debut for [Italy](/source/Italy_national_football_team) under manager [Roberto Mancini](/source/Roberto_Mancini), on 15 November 2019, coming on as a late substitute for [Gianluigi Donnarumma](/source/Gianluigi_Donnarumma) in a 3–0 away win over [Bosnia and Herzegovina](/source/Bosnia_and_Herzegovina_national_football_team), in a [Euro 2020 qualifier](/source/UEFA_Euro_2020_qualifying).[20]

## Personal life

In June 2018, under the pseudonym Gollorius, Gollini published a [rap music](/source/Rap_music) single "*Rapper coi guanti*" (Rapper with gloves); he donated the proceeds to charity.[21]
