**Phutthamonthon** ([Thai](/source/Thai_language): พุทธมณฑล, pronounced [\[pʰút.tʰā.mōn.tʰōn\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA/Thai)) is a district (*[amphoe](/source/Amphoe)*) in the east of [Nakhon Pathom province](/source/Nakhon_Pathom_province), [central Thailand](/source/Central_Thailand).

## Geography

Neighbouring districts are (from the north clockwise): [Bang Len](/source/Bang_Len_district); the districts [Sai Noi](/source/Sai_Noi_district), [Bang Yai](/source/Bang_Yai_district) and [Bang Kruai](/source/Bang_Kruai_district) of [Nonthaburi province](/source/Nonthaburi_province); the district [Thawi Watthana](/source/Thawi_Watthana) of [Bangkok](/source/Bangkok), and [Sam Phran](/source/Sam_Phran_district) and [Nakhon Chai Si](/source/Nakhon_Chai_Si_district).

## History

The minor district (*[king amphoe](/source/King_amphoe)*) was created on 1 April 1991, when three *tambon* were split off from [Nakhon Chai Si district](/source/Nakhon_Chai_Si_district).[1] It was upgraded to a full district on 5 December 1996.[2]

## Buildings

Phutthamonthon

The most important building in the district is the [Phutthamonthon](/source/Phutthamonthon) park, a 40 hectare Buddhist park. The district was named after the park. Its name means "[Mandala](/source/Mandala) of the Buddha".

One of the three campuses of [Mahidol University](/source/Mahidol_University) is also in Salaya.

## Administration

The district is divided into three subdistricts (*[tambons](/source/Tambon)*), which are further subdivided into 18 villages (*[mubans](/source/Muban)*). Salaya has township (*[thesaban tambon](/source/Thesaban_tambon)*) status and covers parts of *tambon* Salaya. Each of the tambon is administered by a tambon administrative organization (TAO).
