Phoef — the first name that he uses both personally and professionally — is pronounced "feef", and was a childhood nickname given to him in infancy by his brothers.

He was also a writer and consulting producer for the [Rob Schneider](/source/Rob_Schneider) sitcom ''[Rob](/source/Rob_(TV_series))'', the SyFy Channel series ''[Defiance](/source/Defiance_(TV_series))'', and the showrunner and writer for the [TV Land](/source/TV_Land) original sitcom ''[The Soul Man](/source/The_Soul_Man)''. He is an adviser to the [American Shakespeare Center](/source/American_Shakespeare_Center).

In 2020, took over as executive producer of Hallmark's hit series ''[Chesapeake Shores](/source/Chesapeake_Shores)'' for its final two seasons.
