**Phobos Ridge** ([71°52′S 68°30′W](https://geohack.toolforge.org/geohack.php?params=71_52_S_68_30_W)) is a rocky ridge of sandstones and shales forming the west side of [Mars Glacier](/source/Mars_Glacier) in the southeast corner of [Alexander Island](/source/Alexander_Island), [Antarctica](/source/Antarctica). The coast in this vicinity was first seen from the air by [Lincoln Ellsworth](/source/Lincoln_Ellsworth) on November 23, 1935, and roughly mapped from photos obtained on that flight by [W.L.G. Joerg](/source/W.L.G._Joerg). This ridge was first surveyed in 1949 by the [Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey](/source/Falkland_Islands_Dependencies_Survey) (FIDS) and named by the [United Kingdom Antarctic Place-Names Committee](/source/United_Kingdom_Antarctic_Place-Names_Committee) (UK-APC) for its association with adjacent Mars Glacier, [Phobos](/source/Phobos_(moon)) being the inner of the two [satellites](/source/Satellite) of the planet [Mars](/source/Mars), the fourth planet of the [Solar System](/source/Solar_System).
