# Phlya

**Phlya** (Ancient Greek: Φλύα or Φλυά) was a [deme](/source/Deme) of [ancient Attica](/source/Ancient_Attica) that lay in the [Mesogaea](/source/Mesogaea). It must have been a place of importance from the number of temples which it contained, and from its frequent mention in inscriptions. It was host to the [Phlyan mystery cult](/source/Greco-Roman_mysteries) of [Demeter](/source/Demeter) and [Dionysus](/source/Dionysus), funded by the Lycomid family.[1][2][3]

The site of Phlya is located near modern [Chalandri](/source/Chalandri).[4][5]
