'''Philip Ferdinand''' (1555, [Poland](/source/Poland) - 1598, [Leiden](/source/Leiden)) was an English [Hebraist](/source/Hebrew_language).

Born in Poland to [Polish Jew](/source/Polish_Jew)ish parents, he converted first to [Roman Catholic](/source/Roman_Catholic)ism and then to [Protestant](/source/Protestant)ism.  He was a [poor student](/source/poor_student) at [Oxford University](/source/Oxford_University), where he taught Hebrew.  He matriculated at [Cambridge University](/source/Cambridge_University) in 1596.  He became professor of Hebrew at [Leiden](/source/Leiden), where he died.  He translated Rabbinic works into Latin.
