'''Philip Connors''' is an [American](/source/United_States) essayist and author. He was born in [Iowa](/source/Iowa) and raised in [Minnesota](/source/Minnesota). He studied journalism at the [University of Montana](/source/University_of_Montana). He interned at ''[The Nation](/source/The_Nation)'' and subsequently worked at the ''[Wall Street Journal](/source/Wall_Street_Journal)'' for several years. He left [New York City](/source/New_York_City) in 2002 and moved to [New Mexico](/source/New_Mexico). He lived in [Silver City, NM](/source/Silver_City%2C_NM) for several years before moving to El Paso, Texas.

Every year since 2002, Connors has worked for several months in the summer at the [Gila National Forest](/source/Gila_National_Forest) as a [US Forest Service](/source/US_Forest_Service) fire lookout.
