# Phil Nicholas

**Philip Nicholas** (born March 16, 1955) is an American politician who served as a [Republican](/source/Republican_Party_(United_States)) member of the [Wyoming Senate](/source/Wyoming_Senate) for the [10th district](/source/Wyoming's_10th_State_Senate_district), encompassing [Albany County](/source/Albany_County,_Wyoming).[1][2][3]

## Biography

Nicholas was born in [Lander](/source/Lander,_Wyoming) in [Fremont County](/source/Fremont_County,_Wyoming) in central Wyoming.[1][2] He graduated from [Oregon State University](/source/Oregon_State_University) in [Corvallis](/source/Corvallis,_Oregon), [Oregon](/source/Oregon), with a [Bachelor of Science](/source/Bachelor_of_Science) in [Microbiology](/source/Microbiology). He received a [Juris Doctor](/source/Juris_Doctor) from the [University of Wyoming College of Law](/source/University_of_Wyoming_College_of_Law).[1][2][3] He works as an [attorney](/source/Lawyer) for the [law firm](/source/Law_firm) Nicholas & Tangeman, LLC in [Laramie](/source/Laramie,_Wyoming).[1][2][3][4]

He served as a member of the [Wyoming House of Representatives](/source/Wyoming_House_of_Representatives) from 1997 to 2004 where he represented the [14th district](/source/Wyoming's_14th_House_of_Representatives_district).[5][1][2][3][6] Since 2005, he has served as a member of the Wyoming Senate.[1][2][3][4] From 2011-2012 he was the Senate Vice President.[7] From 2013-2014, he served as the Senate Majority Floor Leader.[7] From 2015-2016, Senator Nicholas was President of the Senate.[7] Nicholas did not run for re-election to the State Senate in 2016.[8]

He is a member of the Laramie Rotary Club, Co-Chairman of the Laramie Beautification Committee, and an Ex-Officio Member of the Laramie Chamber Business Alliance (formerly the Laramie Economic Development Corporation).[7]
