'''Philip Allen Emery''' (born 25 June 1964) is a former Australian [cricketer](/source/cricketer). A [wicket-keeper](/source/wicket-keeper) and valuable left-handed [batsman](/source/batsman), he represented [Australia](/source/Australia_national_cricket_team) internationally and [New South Wales](/source/New_South_Wales_cricket_team) domestically.

Born in [St Ives](/source/St_Ives%2C_New_South_Wales), [Sydney](/source/Sydney), Emery was educated at [Newington College Preparatory School](/source/Newington_College), [Lindfield](/source/Lindfield%2C_New_South_Wales) (1969–72),<ref>Newington College Register of Past Students 1863–1998 (Syd, 1999) p. 59</ref> and [Shore School](/source/Shore_School), [North Sydney](/source/North_Sydney%2C_New_South_Wales) (1973–1982). At Shore, he was captain of cricket and captain of rugby and subsequently represented [GPS](/source/GPS_Schools) teams in both sports. He was also a very good swimmer and diver in his early school years. Emery represented Gordon at the [Sydney Grade Cricket](/source/Sydney_Grade_Cricket) level. He then made his debut for the [New South Wales Cricket team](/source/New_South_Wales_cricket_team) during the 1987–88 season replacing the previous wicketkeeper [Greg Dyer](/source/Greg_Dyer).

Emery captained New South Wales to their 42nd [Sheffield Shield](/source/Sheffield_Shield) title during the 1993–94 season while regular captain [Mark Taylor](/source/Mark_Taylor_(cricketer)) was absent representing [Australia](/source/Australia_national_cricket_team).

He played in one [Test](/source/Test_cricket) and one [ODI](/source/One_Day_International), both in [Pakistan](/source/Pakistan) relieving [Ian Healy](/source/Ian_Healy) who was out due to injury.<ref>{{Cite web|title=Phil Emery, the keeper Australia rushed to Pakistan for a Test|url=https://www.thecricketmonthly.com/story/1239328/phil-emery--the-keeper-australia-rushed-to-pakistan-for-a-test|access-date=2021-03-21|publisher=ESPNcricinfo|language=en}}</ref> This makes Emery only the third wicket-keeper (together with the long-serving Healy and [Adam Gilchrist](/source/Adam_Gilchrist)) to keep wicket in an Australian Test cricket team to [Shane Warne](/source/Shane_Warne) (1992–2007) and [Glenn McGrath](/source/Glenn_McGrath) (1993–2007) during their long Test careers.

Emery's cricket career is marked by notable achievements, including his record-breaking 378 dismissals in NSW First Class cricket and an additional 81 in One-Day matches. As captain, he led NSW to their 41st and 42nd Sheffield Shield titles in the 1992-93 and 1993-94 seasons. A key player in multiple title-winning teams, Emery scored over 3,000 first-class runs, including 17 fifties and a century, averaging over 26 runs. His career is celebrated for both his leadership and skill on the field.<ref>{{Cite web |title=Phil Emery - Mosman Sporting Wall of Fame |url=https://mosman.nsw.gov.au/sportingwalloffame/sportsperson080.html |website=Mosman.nsw.gov.au |access-date=2 January 2024}}</ref>
