# Peter Trainor

**Peter Trainor** (2 February 1915 – 14 October 1979) was an English professional [footballer](/source/Association_football) who made 71 [Football League](/source/English_Football_League) appearances for [Brighton & Hove Albion](/source/Brighton_%26_Hove_Albion) playing at [centre half](/source/Centre_half) or occasional [centre forward](/source/Centre_forward).[1]

## Life and career

Trainor was born in [Cockermouth](/source/Cockermouth), [Cumberland](/source/Cumberland), in 1915.[1] He began his football career with [Workington](/source/Workington_A.F.C.) of the [North Eastern League](/source/North_Eastern_League) and joined [Preston North End](/source/Preston_North_End) in 1937, but never played for their first team. He moved on to [Brighton & Hove Albion](/source/Brighton_%26_Hove_Albion) of the [Third Division South](/source/Football_League_Third_Division_South) a few months later, and soon established himself in the team, but the outbreak of the [Second World War](/source/Second_World_War) and consequent abandonment of competitive football for the duration meant he was into his thirties before the resumption. He played occasionally at centre forward after the war, but then lost his place entirely and went back to Workington at the end of the 1947–48 season.[2] Trainor died in [Whitehaven](/source/Whitehaven), [Cumbria](/source/Cumbria), in 1979 at the age of 64.[1]
