==Early life and exile==
Nambundunga was born as one of nine children of Reverend Paavo Nambundunga on 3 June 1947 in [Onesi](/source/Onesi) in the [Onesi Constituency](/source/Onesi_Constituency) in [Ovamboland](/source/Ovamboland) (today [Omusati Region](/source/Omusati_Region)). He completed school at [Oshigambo High School](/source/Oshigambo_High_School) and then moved to [Windhoek](/source/Windhoek), where he worked at the [South African Broadcasting Corporation](/source/South_African_Broadcasting_Corporation) (SABC). He also took up writing, and a well-known book, ''"Kandali nookuume ke"'', was published.<ref name=family/>

Nambundunga went into exile in 1974<ref name=family/> and received military training at [Kongwa](/source/Kongwa), [Tanzania](/source/Tanzania), he later was appointed  Chief Instructor there,  through the ranks of the [People's Liberation Army of Namibia](/source/People's_Liberation_Army_of_Namibia) (PLAN) during the [Namibian War of Independence](/source/Namibian_War_of_Independence), occupying various posts until independence. ==Career==
Upon independence, PLAN and the [South West African Territorial Force](/source/South_West_African_Territorial_Force) (SWATF) merged to form the [Namibia Defence Force](/source/Namibia_Defence_Force) (NDF) and Nambundunga was given the rank of [colonel](/source/colonel) and appointed Director of Logistics, after which he served as Chief of Staff Personnel. Between 1999 and 2000 he was a commissioner on the Joint Military Commission which oversaw the ceasefire and peace process in [DRC](/source/Democratic_Republic_of_the_Congo).
