Keith served with the [New Zealand Armed Forces](/source/New_Zealand_Armed_Forces) during the [Second World War](/source/Second_World_War).[2] He was educated at [Ridley Hall, Cambridge](/source/Ridley_Hall,_Cambridge). He was [ordained](/source/Ordained) a [deacon](/source/Deacon) in 1946 and a [priest](/source/Priest) in 1948. After a [curacy](/source/Curate) in [Alverstoke](/source/Alverstoke) he went to New Zealand. After another curacy in [Lower Hutt](/source/Lower_Hutt) he held [incumbencies](/source/Incumbent_(ecclesiastical)) at [Miramar](/source/Miramar,_New_Zealand) and [Gonville](/source/Gonville). He was [Sub Dean](/source/Dean_(religion)) of [Holy Trinity Cathedral, Auckland](/source/Holy_Trinity_Cathedral,_Auckland) from 1962 to 1966; and [Archdeacon](/source/Archdeacon) of [Nelson, New Zealand](/source/Nelson,_New_Zealand) from 1966 to 1976.[3]
