**Peter Jacobson** (born March 24, 1965) is an American actor. He is best known for his portrayal of [Dr. Chris Taub](/source/Chris_Taub) on the [Fox](/source/Fox_Broadcasting_Company) medical drama series *[House](/source/House_(TV_series))*. He also starred on the [USA Network](/source/USA_Network) science fiction drama *[Colony](/source/Colony_(TV_series))* as former Proxy Snyder.

## Early life

Jacobson was born in Chicago, [Illinois](/source/Illinois), the son of Lynn Straus and news anchor [Walter Jacobson](/source/Walter_Jacobson). His family is [Jewish](/source/American_Jews), coming from Russia, Ukraine, and, possibly, Lithuania.[1] He is a 1987 graduate of [Brown University](/source/Brown_University).[2] Jacobson also graduated from the [Juilliard School](/source/Juilliard_School), where he was a member of the drama division's Group 20 (1987–1991).[3]

## Career

Jacobson and [Lisa Edelstein](/source/Lisa_Edelstein), his future co-star on *[House](/source/House_(TV_series))*, appeared as a couple eating at a restaurant in the 1997 film *[As Good as It Gets](/source/As_Good_as_It_Gets)*. He appeared twice on *[Law & Order](/source/Law_%26_Order)* as Randy Dworkin, a jovial crusading defense attorney. In 2005, he played Jimmy in the [Academy Award](/source/Academy_Award)-nominated film *[Good Night, and Good Luck](/source/Good_Night%2C_and_Good_Luck)*.[4] He has appeared in *[Scrubs](/source/Scrubs_(TV_series))*, *[CSI: Miami](/source/CSI%3A_Miami)*, *[The Lost Room](/source/The_Lost_Room)*, *[The Starter Wife](/source/The_Starter_Wife_(miniseries))*, *[Transformers](/source/Transformers_(film))*, *[Colony](/source/Colony_(TV_series))*, and *[The Midnight Meat Train](/source/The_Midnight_Meat_Train)*.

Jacobson joined the cast of *[House](/source/House_(TV_series))* as [Dr. Chris Taub](/source/Chris_Taub), a [plastic surgeon](/source/Plastic_surgeon) hoping to secure a place on [Dr. Gregory House](/source/Gregory_House)'s diagnostics team. In October 2007, he was confirmed as a regular on the show.[5] He made a guest appearance as Alan on an episode of the USA Network's *[Royal Pains](/source/Royal_Pains)*.[6]
