'''Peter Gladstone''' (16 October 1928 – 25 July 2000) was a [British](/source/UK) [naturalist](/source/naturalist) and [wildfowl](/source/wildfowl) expert and patent attorney. He was the great-grandson of the Liberal prime minister [William Ewart Gladstone](/source/William_Ewart_Gladstone), and brother of [Sir William Gladstone, 7th Baronet](/source/Sir_William_Gladstone%2C_7th_Baronet). He grew up at [Hawarden Castle](/source/Hawarden_Castle_(18th_century)) in Wales, and attended [Eton College](/source/Eton_College), where his father, [Charles Gladstone](/source/Sir_Charles_Gladstone%2C_6th_Baronet), was a [housemaster](/source/housemaster). He served in the [Palestine Police](/source/Palestine_Police) in 1946, towards the end of the [British Mandate of Palestine](/source/Mandatory_Palestine). From 1949 to 1952 he studied biology at [Christ Church, Oxford](/source/Christ_Church%2C_Oxford), and rowed for Oxford in the 1952 [Boat Race](/source/The_Boat_Race). He went on to teach biology at [Shrewsbury School](/source/Shrewsbury_School) until 1971, when he joined [Sir Peter Scott](/source/Sir_Peter_Scott)'s [Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust](/source/Wildfowl_and_Wetlands_Trust). Gladstone developed the trust's wildfowl reserve at [Martin Mere](/source/WWT_Martin_Mere) in [Lancashire](/source/Lancashire). In the 1970s he took over the management of [Fasque House](/source/Fasque_House), a family property in Aberdeenshire. In 1998 he journeyed to [Tibet](/source/Tibet) in an unsuccessful search for the [pink-headed duck](/source/pink-headed_duck). He was a fellow of the [Royal Geographical Society](/source/Royal_Geographical_Society). Gladstone died of a [heart attack](/source/heart_attack) at the age of 71.
