**Peter Ester** (5 June 1953 – 11 December 2022) was a Dutch [sociologist](/source/Sociologist) and [politician](/source/Politician). As a member of the [Christian Union](/source/Christian_Union_(Netherlands)) he was a member of the [Senate](/source/Senate_of_the_Netherlands) from 7 June 2011 until his death. He focused on matters of [economic affairs](/source/Economy), [agriculture](/source/Agriculture), [social affairs](/source/Social_affairs) and [employment](/source/Employment), [finance](/source/Finance), [infrastructure](/source/Infrastructure), [natural environment](/source/Natural_environment) and [Kingdom relations](/source/Kingdom_of_the_Netherlands).

Ester studied sociology at [Utrecht University](/source/Utrecht_University) and got [promoted](/source/Doctorate) in economics at [Erasmus University Rotterdam](/source/Erasmus_University_Rotterdam).

Among others he worked at Vrije Universiteit (Free University Amsterdam), [Tilburg University](/source/Tilburg_University) and Utrecht University.

Ester was married and a member of the [Protestant Church in the Netherlands](/source/Protestant_Church_in_the_Netherlands) (PKN).

Ester died after a long illness on 11 December 2022, at the age of 69.[1]
