# Peter Coupar

**Peter Coupar** (17 October 1866 – 6 July 1944) was a Scottish [footballer](/source/Association_football) who played for in [the Football League](/source/English_Football_League) for [Bolton Wanderers](/source/Bolton_Wanderers_F.C.) and [Stoke](/source/Stoke_City_F.C.).[2]

## Career

Coupar started his career playing for his local club [Dundee Wanderers](/source/Dundee_Wanderers_F.C.).[2] In 1888 he moved south of the border to [Bolton Wanderers](/source/Bolton_Wanderers_F.C.) where he played three times in [1888–89](/source/1888%E2%80%9389_Bolton_Wanderers_F.C._season) scoring once on 15 September 1888 in a 4–3 defeat against [Burnley](/source/Burnley_F.C.).[1] He left midway through the campaign for [Kidderminster Harriers](/source/Kidderminster_Harriers_F.C.) before returning to the Football League with [Stoke](/source/Stoke_City_F.C.). He played eleven times during [1889–90](/source/1889%E2%80%9390_Stoke_F.C._season) scoring three goals as the Potters failed to gain [re-election](/source/Re-election_(Football_League)) and had to join the [Football Alliance](/source/Football_Alliance). Coupar scored two goals in three matches in both league and cup in [1890–91](/source/1890%E2%80%9391_Stoke_F.C._season) helping Stoke win the Football Alliance title and regain their league status.[2] He left at the end of the campaign for [Northern League](/source/Northern_Football_League) side [Middlesbrough Ironopolis](/source/Middlesbrough_Ironopolis_F.C.).[1]
