'''Peter Alfred Gross''' (c. 1849–1914) was an American [landscape painter](/source/Landscape_art) known primarily for his French seascapes and countrysides.

Gross was born in [Allentown](/source/Allentown%2C_Pennsylvania), Pennsylvania, in the [Lehigh Valley](/source/Lehigh_Valley) region of the United States.  Most of his career (1874–1914) was spent living and painting in France, where he also studied with [Edmond Marie Petitjean](/source/Edmond_Marie_Petitjean).  He exhibited at the Paris [Salon](/source/Salon_(Paris)) and at the [Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts](/source/Pennsylvania_Academy_of_the_Fine_Arts).

Notable students of Gross included [Arlington Nelson Lindenmuth](/source/Arlington_Nelson_Lindenmuth), who was the husband of his cousin.<ref>Hutson-Saxon, p. 208.</ref>
