The **Pesio** is a 48.8-kilometre (30.3 mi)[1] long [river](/source/River) in northwestern [Italy](/source/Italy) ([Piedmont](/source/Piedmont)).

## Geography

The river is a tributary to the river [Tanaro](/source/Tanaro_River), which is a tributary of the river [Po](/source/Po_River). Its source is on the northern slopes of the [Marguareis](/source/Punta_Marguareis), the highest summit of the [Ligurian Alps](/source/Ligurian_Alps). It flows northwards digging the *Valle Pesio*, which ends in the [Po plain](/source/Po_plain) near [Chiusa di Pesio](/source/Chiusa_di_Pesio).[3] The Pesio then follows its course through the plain heading north up to [Morozzo](/source/Morozzo), where it gets from the [left](/source/Bank_(geography)) its main tributary, the Brobbio, and turns NE. Then, with some [meander](/source/Meander), it reaches the [Tanaro](/source/Tanaro) a couple of [km](/source/Km) south of [Carrù](/source/Carr%C3%B9).[4]
