# Perth Marshalling Yard

**Perth Marshalling Yard** was a [marshalling yard](/source/Marshalling_yard) to the west of [Perth railway station](/source/Perth_railway_station) in [Perth](/source/Perth), [Western Australia](/source/Western_Australia).

The origins and development of the yard can be seen in considerations of the 1899 [Royal Commission](/source/Royal_Commission) into the early stages of city railway traffic and the related joint select committee on the bridges over [William Street](/source/William_Street,_Perth) (the [Horseshoe Bridge](/source/Horseshoe_Bridge)) and [Melbourne Road](/source/Milligan_Street,_Perth#Melbourne_Street) (which did not eventuate).[1][2]

The yard included access to the [Perth Metropolitan Markets](/source/Perth_Metropolitan_Markets) and other adjacent industrial sites. It had three [McKenzie & Holland](/source/McKenzie_%26_Holland) mechnical lever interlocking [signal boxes](/source/Signal_box); box A with 27 levers, box B 120 levers and box C with 85 levers.[3]

It closed on 2 October 1970 after the opening of [Forrestfield Marhalling Yard](/source/Forrestfield_Marhalling_Yard).[4][5] In April 1973, the [Wellington Street bus station](/source/Wellington_Street_bus_station) opened on part of the former yard.[6][7]

Other parts of the yard were redeveloped as part of the [Perth City Link](/source/Perth_City_Link) project.[8]
