Perry is located at {{coord|45.348|-118.167|type:city_region:US-OR_elevation:883|format=dms|display=inline,title}} and has an elevation of {{convert|2987|ft|m|abbr=off|sp=us}}.<ref name=USGS>{{cite gnis|id=1136624|name=Perry|accessdate=February 26, 2010}}</ref>

Perry came into existence in 1890, when the [Smith-Stanley Lumber Company](/source/Smith-Stanley_Lumber_Company) built a sawmill in the area.<ref name=Barklow/>  A post office was established in the same year.<ref name=Barklow/>  The mill was sold to Charley and Jim Mimnaugh and again in 1900 to C.W. Nibley and George Stoddard, who renamed the mill the [Grande Ronde Lumber Company](/source/Grande_Ronde_Lumber_Company).<ref name=Barklow/>  In 1927, the Grande Ronde Lumber Company merged with the [Stoddard Lumber Company](/source/Stoddard_Lumber_Company) of [Baker City](/source/Baker_City%2C_Oregon) and moved across the [valley](/source/Grande_Ronde_Valley) to [Pondosa](/source/Pondosa%2C_Oregon), taking most of the town with it.<ref name=Barklow/>  The post office was discontinued in 1931.<ref name=Barklow/>
