He was born in [Kristiania](/source/Oslo) as a son of [Gerda Ring](/source/Gerda_Ring) and [Halfdan Christensen](/source/Halfdan_Christensen) and brother of [Bab Christensen](/source/Bab_Christensen). He made his stage debut in 1949 at the [National Theatre](/source/Nationaltheatret).
