**Pefki** ([Greek](/source/Greek_language): Πεύκη, pronounced [\[ˈpefci\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA/Greek), meaning "[pine](/source/Pine)", before 1959: Μαγκουφάνα *Magkoufana*[2] [\[maɡuˈfana\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA/Greek)) is a [town](/source/Town) and a [suburb](/source/Suburb) in the northeastern part of the [Athens agglomeration](/source/Athens#Athens_Urban_Area), [Greece](/source/Greece). Since the 2011 local government reform, it is part of the municipality [Lykovrysi-Pefki](/source/Lykovrysi-Pefki), of which it is the seat and a municipal unit[3] and is part of [North Athens](/source/North_Athens) regional unit. According to the [2021 population census](/source/2021_Greek_census), Pefki has 21,293 residents.[1]

## Geography

Pefki is situated 10 kilometres (6 miles) northeast of Athens city centre. The municipal unit has an area of 2.176 km2.[4] The built-up area of Pefki is continuous with those of the neighbouring suburbs [Irakleio](/source/Irakleio%2C_Attica), [Lykovrysi](/source/Lykovrysi), [Kifisia](/source/Kifisia) and [Marousi](/source/Marousi). Pefki consists of two areas: Ano Pefki and Kato Pefki. Pefki is served by [Athens Metro Line 1](/source/Line_1_(Athens_Metro)), with the relevant station called "KAT", named after the [KAT Hospital](/source/KAT_Hospital) that is nearby, and by several bus routes. The nearest motorway is the [A6](/source/A6_motorway_(Greece)), south of Pefki.
