# Pavan Kapoor

**Pavan Kapoor** (born 24 December 1966) is an [Indian Foreign Service](/source/Indian_Foreign_Service) officer who is currently serving as the Deputy [National Security Advisor of India](/source/National_Security_Advisor_of_India). He has previously served as the [Secretary (West)](/source/Secretary_to_the_Government_of_India) in the [Ministry of External Affairs](/source/Ministry_of_External_Affairs_(India)), and as the Indian Ambassador to [Russia](/source/Ambassador_of_India_to_Russia), [Israel](/source/Ambassador_of_India_to_Israel), [UAE](/source/Ambassador_of_India_to_the_United_Arab_Emirates) and [Mozambique](/source/Mozambique).[1]

## Career

Pavan Kapoor joined the [Indian Foreign Service](/source/Indian_Foreign_Service) in 1990. In his diplomatic career, he has served in different Indian Missions abroad, the [Ministry of External Affairs](/source/Ministry_of_External_Affairs_(India)), and the [Prime Minister](/source/Prime_Minister_of_India)'s Office in [New Delhi](/source/New_Delhi). He also served as an international civil servant with the [Commonwealth Secretariat](/source/Commonwealth_Secretariat) in [London](/source/London).[1]

## Personal life

Pavan Kapoor is married to Aradhana Sharma, who is a freelance journalist.[1] He completed a [MBA](/source/Master_of_Business_Administration) from [IIM Ahmedabad](/source/IIM_Ahmedabad) and a [MSc](/source/Master_of_Science) from [London School of Economics](/source/London_School_of_Economics).
