# Paul Steck

**Paul Steck** (born **Paul Albert Dugas**;[1] 27 May 1866 – 8 July 1924)[2] was a French painter of [landscapes](/source/Landscape), historical scenes, and several [portraits](/source/Portrait) from life.[3]

## Biography

Paul Steck was born in [Troyes](/source/Troyes), France. He began his career studying under [Jean-Léon Gérôme](/source/Jean-L%C3%A9on_G%C3%A9r%C3%B4me). In 1896 he was made a member of the [Société des Artistes Français](/source/Soci%C3%A9t%C3%A9_des_Artistes_Fran%C3%A7ais).[3] In 1896, he exhibited works in the fifth *[Salon de la Rose + Croix](/source/Salon_de_la_Rose_%2B_Croix)*.[4] In 1900, he won a bronze medal at the [Exposition Universelle](/source/Exposition_Universelle_(1900)).[3] In 1911, he was appointed deputy director of the [École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs](/source/%C3%89cole_nationale_sup%C3%A9rieure_des_arts_d%C3%A9coratifs) in Paris.

Museums in [Dieppe](/source/Dieppe,_Seine-Maritime), [Montauban](/source/Montauban), and [Rouen](/source/Rouen) display his work.[3] He died in Paris.[2]
